Cate Blanchett Calls For Improvements In Sydney

Cate Blanchett is urging authorities in Sydney, Australia to redevelop the streets around her theatre company to transform the area into a vibrant cultural centre.

The Australian actress and her husband, screenwriter Andrew Upton, work as co-artistic directors of the Sydney Theatre Company, which is based in the city’s Walsh Bay.

The Oscar-winner has helped improve the theatre by installing an eco-friendly power system and now she is urging local authorities to follow her lead by revitalising the surrounding area, according to the Aap.

She stood up in front of a massive crowd at Sydney Town Hall on Tuesday (08Mar11) to call for improvements, telling the audience, “It’s hard to believe Sydney Theatre Company was once a solitary outpost of the arts in Walsh Bay. Now, with so many artists and companies already resident and more on the way, the development and enhancement of this growing precinct can be a great economic driver with boundless potential to assist in positioning Sydney as a multi-dimensional global city… (The area needs improved transport), revitalised nooks and crannies (and places for people to) linger and soak up the atmosphere.”

Cate Blanchett Drop Out of ‘While We’re Young’

There is still time to find the replacements.

JustJared.com reported actors James Franco and Cate Blanchett dropped out of “While We’re Young” film before it starts filming in mid-June in New York City.

Franco dropped out due to the scheduling conflict with Sam Raimi’s “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” in which he plays the lead role.

Blanchett pulled out of the project after Franco’s departure, but it is not known for what reason. Maybe it has something to do with the production of “The Hobbit” films?

Comedian-actor Ben Stiller is still attached to the project despite these departures.

The film is about a free-spirited Booklynite twenty-something couple who inspires an uptight documentarian and his wife to loosen up – with comedic consequences.

Director Noah Baumbach will helm the project. Baumbach and Stiller worked together previously in “Greenberg.”

Baumbach has a unique comedic approach towards his movies. The writer-director has a long list of movies in his filmography including “Kicking and Screaming,” “Highball,” “Mr. Jealousy,” “The Squid and the Whale,” “Margot at the Wedding,” and “Greenberg.”

He also wrote the script for “While We’re Young.” His long-time film collaborator Scott Rudin (“Greenberg, “Fantastic Mr. Fox”) will be producing the project and Focus Features will handle the distribution.

Greta Gerwig was previously set to play the young wife, but she left earlier from the project due to scheduling issues.

So with three out of four departed from the project—hopefully they could still save this film. Time for a casting call for new actors!

Lots of critics and divided opinions about the dress Cate was wearing at The Oscars© , what do you think?

Cate Blanchett – Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett wasn’t nominated for any awards at Sunday’s Oscars but the actress still remains the talk of the web.

The usually regal actress donned a soft lavender Givenchy Haute Couture gown with a cut-out in the front that many fashion analyst were not thrilled about calling it “the back of a well upholstered chair”. Yet, Cate has viewers nearly split down the middle. Huffington Post readers Loved the gown at 49% while 51% Loathed it! Many voters who initially loathed the gown are admitting to the piece “growing” on them.

It’s certainly a risky choice but perhaps UK’s The Metro puts it best, “It was an edgy and fashion forward look that only someone as beautiful as Blanchett could carry off”. What’s your take on Cate Blanchett’s Givenchy gown?
