She’s had some of the most dignified and acclaimed roles in the world, and now Cate Blanchett is going for a new gig: a guest starring role on “Family Guy.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Academy Award winning actress will pop in for an episode next spring on the hit Fox animated series.

No details yet on Blanchett’s character. The actress is currently filming “The Hobbit” in New Zealand.

Cate Blanchett has joked she spent “24 hours a day” in her forensic scientist suit to prepare for her cameo in Hot Fuzz.
The Hollywood actress played police investigator Janine, who is the ex-girlfriend of Simon Pegg’s character Nicholas Angel, in the 2007 British comedy. Written by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, the movie tells the story of jealous colleagues who conspire to get a top London policeman transferred to a small town and paired with a witless new partner.

Cate had a cameo role in the film and wore a mask during her brief scene. The star has joked the shoot took “months” of planning.

“For Hot Fuzz, it was months and months of detailed preparation. I sat down with the creative team and had a huge input into the production design, and then I wore that white suit and mask for at least three or four weeks, for 24 hours a day to get the feel of what it is like to be a forensic scientist. It was exhausting,” she laughed to Collider.com. “I got my eyelashes tinted as well!”

The 41-year-old – who is best known for her roles in Elizabeth and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – played the elf queen Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s acclaimed The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Cate thinks director Pete and his partner Fran Walsh are “gifts” to the film world for producing such great movies.

“Galadriel is only a small part of the Lord of The Rings trilogy but it was the greatest three weeks I’ve ever spent. Peter Jackson and Fran, his partner in crime, are two of the great gifts to the film industry. Certainly one of the greatest gifts to New Zealand,” she gushed.

It has recently been revealed that Cate will be returning to the fantasy franchise to play Galadriel in the highly-anticipated The Hobbit. Although she hasn’t seen a script yet, she is looking forward to being involved.

“I haven’t seen a script yet, so I don’t know what I’ll be doing. I mean Galadriel doesn’t feature very strongly in The Hobbit,” she explained. “They’re filming in the middle of the year, but there’s been an earthquake in New Zealand, there’s been a lot of earthquakes everywhere, let’s face it, but I think it’s in the middle of the year that’s it’s happening”

OSCAR-winning actress Cate Blanchett may be appearing in her first film with Saoirse Ronan — but she has a long history with her family.

Blanchett (42) stars alongside the Carlow teen in action flick Hanna, but she reveals that she knew Saoirse when she was just a young child.

Blanchett explains that she worked with Saoirse’s actor father Paul while filming Veronica Guerin in Dublin in 2003, and even spent time with her when Saoirse would visit on set. “I had worked with her father on Veronica Guerin,” she said. “When I bumped into him at the Oscars ceremony in 2008, it was then that I realised that the little child who used to visit the set was one of the year’s nominees — Saoirse.”

And she was clearly wowed by Saoirse’s acting chops and praised her co-star’s performance in the upcoming movie. “Saoirse is an extraordinary actor and an incredible presence, self-possessed and unaffected. She connects with things by drawing on her own experiences. She has a rare spirit,” she said.

Cinemagoers will soon see the 16-year-old in the lead role of Hanna, where she plays a teenage assassin raised by her rogue CIA agent father, played by Eric Bana, in rural Finland.

Bana revealed he was taken aback by the strength of his onscreen daughter, who did several of her own stunts in the high-octane action scenes.

“Turns out that her arm’s length reach is very long, and almost the same as mine,” Eric said. “I had to be very cautious not to hurt her — and not get knocked out by her. I’ve worked with a lot of guys who are not as tough as Saoirse is.”

Meanwhile, the young blonde beauty says she is determined to continue taking risks.

“I want all the roles that I play to hold challenges,” Saoirse said. “With lots of action and a layered character, Hanna had them for me. Hanna discovers life for the first time, so the movie is not just about a girl who kicks butt — though she certainly does.”

Cate Blanchett is urging authorities in Sydney, Australia to redevelop the streets around her theatre company to transform the area into a vibrant cultural centre.

The Australian actress and her husband, screenwriter Andrew Upton, work as co-artistic directors of the Sydney Theatre Company, which is based in the city’s Walsh Bay.

The Oscar-winner has helped improve the theatre by installing an eco-friendly power system and now she is urging local authorities to follow her lead by revitalising the surrounding area, according to the Aap.

She stood up in front of a massive crowd at Sydney Town Hall on Tuesday (08Mar11) to call for improvements, telling the audience, “It’s hard to believe Sydney Theatre Company was once a solitary outpost of the arts in Walsh Bay. Now, with so many artists and companies already resident and more on the way, the development and enhancement of this growing precinct can be a great economic driver with boundless potential to assist in positioning Sydney as a multi-dimensional global city… (The area needs improved transport), revitalised nooks and crannies (and places for people to) linger and soak up the atmosphere.”

The Golden Globes nominations were only just announced in Hollywood, with the winners announced on January 13.

However, the wonder from Down Under faces stiff competition from two American darlings; Angelina Jolie for A Mighty Heart and recently outed Jodie Foster for The Brave One.

If Blanchett loses, she still has a shot at gold, with a second nod – as best supporting actrees – for her remarkable gender-bending transformation as Bob Dylan in I’m Not There. Ever the perfectionist, Blanchett admits she stuck a sock down her pants to help her walk “more like a man” for the role.

Most nominations this year didn’t go to a Hollywood film at all. The sumptuous British epic Atonement led the way with seven nods in all, including hot young thesps Keira Knightley and James McAvoy up for best actor and actress for steaming up the screen.

US political comedy Charlie Wilson’s War received the next most – five – including nods for stars Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.

Yet the film critics and audiences are raving about is the slick US crime thriller American Gangster, with nomination for best film, best actor (Denzel Washington) and best director (Ridley Scott). Aussie Russell Crowe failed to be recognised despite his scintillating performance.

Its biggest threats are from fellow US films No Country For Old Men (four nods) and There Will Be Blood (two) – both about greed and violence in the American West.

The only other Aussie nominated this year were Rose Byrne for TV’s legal drama Damages and Rachel Griffiths for the dysfunctional family comedy Brothers and Sisters.
