Despite reports that Indian Summer had been given the green light by the Indian government it has now been announced by Variety that the film has been canceled due mainly to budget constraints. Below is what director Joe Wright had to say, via BBC News.

Wright told Variety there had been creative differences between the film’s producers and the Indian government.
“We were in between a rock and a hard place,” he said.
“The Indian government wanted us to make less of the love story while the studio wanted us to make more of the love story.”

On October 14th Russel Crowe was interviewed on the set of Robin Hood by The Today Show! Cate herself wasn’t interviewed but the segments did feature scenes of Cate as Marian! The Guardian is reporting that Irrfan Khan has been cast alongside Cate in Indian Summer, which has now been given the go ahead by the Indian Government – as long as the love scenes are toned down. The film will see a 2011 release and will be directed by Joe Wright!

Khan is poised to play Nehru, the first prime minister of India, who served between 1947 and 1964. Blanchett plays Lady Mountbatten, the wife of the last Viceroy of the British Indian Empire. Hugh Grant is due to take the pivotal role of Lord Mountbatten.
